'I'd look much better if I had been under the knife': Carol Vordeman insists she's never had surgery

By Nadia Mendoza

Has she or hasn't she? Carol Vorderman, 51, insists she has not been under the knife - pictured last month and earlier in 1985 at the beginning of her career

She may be the wrong side of 50.

But Carol Vorderman still looks a decade younger than she actually is.

Yet the Loose Women host insists she has never been under the knife, claiming she would look 'much better' had she endured plastic surgery.

Not bad for 51! Carol attends the National Television Awards in January
Carol, 51, revealed: 'When it comes to surgery though, I won’t even get involved with it all.

'It has been reported that I have had so much done and if it was all true I’d look a lot better than I do now.'

The former Countdown star, speaking on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, said: 'How you look now has become ridiculously disproportionate to what you do. Critics are more harsh on female presenters.'

Moving on: Carol looked fresh-faced posing with new Countdown presenter Des Lynam in 2005 after he took over from the late Richard Whiteley

She bemoaned: 'When you type, "mutton dressed as lamb" into Google, I’m the first 10 pages. I don’t mind it being written, it goes over my head.

'People think I’m glamorous but in fact I love going back to Bristol and having no make-up for four days.'

The Bedford-born beauty must be doing something right though, having beaten Pippa Middleton's famous derriere to the coveted spot of Rear Of The Year 2011.

Regrets? Carol agreed to be photographed without make-up in 1998

At the time she said: 'I am really surprised and flattered to get this award, particularly at this stage of my life.

'I always suspected there were a lot of people out there who were glad to see the back of me, so this has turned out to be very funny indeed.'

Following the filming, Piers tweeted about the 'inspiring' interview.

He wrote: 'Just finished taping 1st show of new #LifeStories with @carolvorders - emotional, funny, heartbreaking & inspiring.'

The full interview will be broadcast on ITV1 later this year.
