'Snubbed' Beatrice pleads for Jubilee job to India with dad

By Katie Nicholl

Princess Beatrice is keen to get involved with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and wants to join her father Prince Andrew on a visit to India in honour of the occasion.

She is understood to have asked if she could accompany him this year as part of a world tour by Royals to mark her grandmother’s 60th anniversary.

The Princess is still trying to find a job after graduating from London’s Goldsmiths College last year.

'Beatrice has a lot to offer the Royal Family, but there is a feeling the attention is being focused on William, Harry and Kate,' said a source

‘Beatrice would like to play her part in marking her grandmother’s milestone,’ says a source.

‘She has a lot to offer the Royal Family, but there is a feeling the attention is being focused on William, Harry and Kate as far as the young Royals are concerned.’

Although Beatrice, 23, was one of the most prominent Royals to take part in Andrew Marr’s recent TV documentary, Diamond Queen, she has no official role in the Jubilee celebrations.

The Duke is keen for daughters Beatrice and Eugenie to take on more Royal duties.

‘If that is what they want to do, I see no reason why not. I could make use of them because they would take some of the burden off me,’ he has said.

In 2008, Prince Andrew took Beatrice on a 14-day tour of Egypt and Abu Dhabi, where she ‘observed’ his work as a UK Trade Ambassador.

‘She has raised the possibility of going to India and it is being considered,’ says an aide.

Beatrice spent her gap year travelling, including a trip to India.

‘The Princess is keen to be involved with the celebrations and she would love to go back to India,’ adds a friend.

Since graduating, she has done work experience and wants to pursue a career in the fashion industry.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: ‘In terms of the involvement of Beatrice and Eugenie in other Diamond Jubilee-related events, they will be announced in due course.’

The star-studded Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace in June has killed off another official event to celebrate the Queen’s 60-year reign.

An open-air concert planned for her Scottish retreat of Balmoral has been cancelled because organisers could not raise sufficient funds.

The event would have raised £100,000 if it had sold out – but it clashed with the Buckingham Palace show, which features major international stars and is to be televised.

‘They just felt they could not compete with Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney in London,’ says a source.
