Suri gets her training wheels! Katie Holmes teaches her six-year-old how to ride a bike

By Leah Simpson

She is constantly seen doting over her six-year-old daughter with Tom Cruise.

And today was no different as Katie Holmes made the most of the last days of summer with Suri by teaching her how to ride a bike.

Sure to be a memorable time in her life as she tries to get good enough to take off her training wheels, the tiny fashionista was dressed to impress in a summer frock that perfectly matched her pink wheels.

Helping hand: Cruise learned how to ride a bike on a path near the West Side Highway in New York City

While Holmes dressed simply in a pair of jeans and a sheer white T-shirt, as well as low heel boots for the outing, Suri made more of an effort for the experience.

The adorable youngster wore a speckled beige dress with flat red pumps as her actress mother taught her how to pedal properly.

Coordinating her pink helmet to her bike, she began rather wobbly but soon seemed to get into the swing of it while Katie held a supportive palm on her handle bar.

A coy Suri didn’t appear too willing to give a progress report as they left Manhattan’s West Side bike path and sat by a water fountain.

Wobbly start: The six-year-old took a teddy bear along for comfort which she kept in her front basket

As well as fashioning ribbons on her bike she also kept a beloved teddy bear in her front basket for comfort.

But she seemed annoyed, if even for a moment, while her mother appeared to take a break in the riding lesson to take a phone call.

Suri displayed an un-pleased face as she waited near Katie, who was seen chatting on her mobile device.

Suri has been the receiver of a lot of love lately after Holmes lodged legal papers in June to divorce husband Tom Cruise, citing 'irreconcilable differences' for the split.

Eager to learn: Suri had to be patient while her mother was on the phone

She requested sole legal custody and 'primary residential custody' of Suri.

The former couple released a joint statement last month, saying: 'We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests.

'We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents.
