Producers Guild Awards 2012: Brad Pitt ditches his walking cane to squire super-sexy Angelina Jolie

By Amelia Proud

Insouciant hand in pocket: Brad Pitt ditched his cane to accompany Angelina Jolie to tonight's Producers Guild Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles

It never suited him, to be fair, and we all laughed along when his best friend George Clooney gently mocked Brad Pitt for his walking cane at the Golden Globes.

The 48-year-old actor can pull off many guises, it's true, sinewy column of fury in Fight Club, psycho in Kalifornia, suave conman in the Oceans films and latterly, baseball genius in Moneyball.

But in none of these beloved films has he ever hobbled, so his equally dashing friend was right to call him out, although Brad's stick was no affectation but rather support for a knee injury, as they faced each other in the same Globes category (which George won).

A little bit of joshing between friends - not to mention a lost best actor award - can have a profound effect upon a proud man, so you have to wonder if George's jape speeded up Brad's recovery.

Or at least hardened his resolve to be get back to his debonair best before tonight's Producers Guild Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Because the cane was noticeably absent from tonight's elegant affair, and Brad was back to his insouciant best, one hand in pocket and the other around the most beautiful woman in the world, you can't beat him there, George!

It was perhaps no coincidence, after he was left trailing in his stuffy three piece suit on Sunday - which aged him along with the cane - that he chose a younger style tonight.

The simple black suit with matching tie took years off the father-of-six, this could be the Brad of the heist, or the mysterious lead at the heart of Meet Joe Black.

As for Angelina, 36 , she was never going to reach the dizzy heights of that perfect Versace number from Globes night, and proving just how stylish she is, the actress didn't even try.

In fact, Angelina opted for an almost diametrically opposed look, that was quite conservative in nature.

Her hair was worn loose and bouncy which seemed to channel the suggestion of 80s' in conjunction with her black cut-out dress, which featured retro floral lace panels.

She even neutralised those wonderful lips with a pale shade, after slicking crimson across them to match the red accent in her stunning column dress at the awards show.

But Angelina still oozed star quality in this ensemble, proving she has the mercurial props to inhabit any look with trademark verve.

Her father Jon Voight claims he has something of a sixth sense that the Jolie-Pitt children will become stars just like their parents.

The 73-year-old says he has 'a feeling' the brood will grow up to follow in the footsteps of mum Angelina Jolie and dad Brad Pitt and become actors.

He told television show E! News: 'I have no doubt.'

What a difference a week makes: Brad hobbled after Angelina at the Globes but tonight, masterfully led her by the hand - the differing looks on his face say it all

And he added that he believes the entertainment industry should start preparing for their success.

He said: 'Hollywood should be afraid of them! These guys are really something.'

The Mission Impossible actor is a granddad to Maddox, 10, Pax, eight, Zahara, seven, Shiloh, five, and three-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

Despite his premonitions, Voight said that he will stand by the children in whatever career they eventually decide to pursue.

He said: ‘I try to give them support as Brad and Angie do.’

In a class of her own: Jolie made no attempt to recreate her Globes triumph, opting for a completely different look which was equally as wonderful on the Land of Milk and Honey producer

He added: ‘They really let these kids be who they are.’

But it wasn’t always smooth sailing between the star and his daughter Angelina Jolie.

Their relationship came to a head shortly after Jolie adopted Cambodian born Maddox.
Voight spoke out in an interview at the time to say his daughter has 'serious mental issues', which caused the furious star to cut contact with him.

She retaliated: 'They could have decided he's right, she's crazy, let's remove that child from her custody, and that's unforgivable.

Distinguished guests: Annette Bening spoke along with Mr Clooney at tonight's prestigious event

'My father and I don't speak. I don't believe that somebody's family becomes their blood. Because my son's adopted, and families are earned.'

After the death of Jolie’s mother Marcheline Bertrand in 2007, Voight repeatedly attempted to make contact with her.

But it was only in 2009 after some persuasion from partner Brad that the star agreed to reconcile.
