New pictures show Christina Aguilera's close on-set friendship with new boyfriend Matt Rutler... before her divorce

Close: Christina Aguilera was spotted walking alone with her new boyfriend Matt Rutler on the set of Burlesque

Many Hollywood romances blossom on film sets.

And it seems the same is true for Christina Aguilera and her new boyfriend Matt Rutler.

The couple met on the set of her debut film Burlesque earlier in the year, but the singer says they didn't start dating until after she filed for divorce from her husband Jordan Bratman.

New pictures have emerged showing that the pair did indeed grow close during filming, and that Matt, who worked as a set assistant, was glued to her side.

The 29-year-old singer has been open about the fact that she struck up a friendship with Rutler, who is also a guitarist, during filming.

'Matthew is a special person,' she told People magazine last week. 'We had a really strong friendship on the movie.

'He's the kind of person you could spend hours on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it's daylight.

'Once I filed for divorce, we started dating. I'm not trying to jump into anything. I just left a five-year marriage. I'm taking it slow and trying to be happy.'

But despite insisting they are taking things slowly, she added: 'There's a love there, yes. I'm having fun, I'm dating and it's something I haven't had in a really long time.'

Her new boyfriend has accompanied the mother-of-one on a publicity trip to Japan this week, where she appeared at a press conference with co-stars Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet.

And the singer has revealed how her relationship with husband Jordan Bratman had been troubled for some time before their split.

'Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it. I really didn't want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up.

'When you're unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer. That's the last thing I wanted for my son.'

'We were great the first year after Max was born. Jordan was amazing. He was the first to change Max's diaper.

'Then things turned. I was nurturing Max and felt independent in the relationship.'

'I went right into filming Burlesque [in Autumn last year]. As a musician you're with your posse all the time, and during the movie I removed myself from mine.

Split: the singer announced her split from husband of five years, Jordan Bratman, six weeks ago

'So I had an independence I'd never felt before. I was growing leaps and bounds daily. I went from being a girl to a woman.

'When I finished filming, I didn't feel right in my own shoes [at home]. I had a lot of things stirring inside of me that I felt were being suppressed.

'We tried to work on the marriage and figure out a common ground, but the problems were obvious.'
