In a town packed to the rafters with A-list film stars and celebrities, you might think a whistlestop Royal visit would pass without too much fuss. You would be wrong.

Hollywood stars are pulling out all the stops in their efforts to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when the newlyweds make a flying visit to Los Angeles.

Socialites have described it as the ‘hottest event ever’, with one saying: ‘If you don’t get invited you will have to leave town to avoid humiliation. There hasn’t been excitement like this about a trip since the days of Princess Di.’

William and Kate will arrive in LA on July 8, following their week-long tour of Canada.

They had been expected to remain for three days, but insiders say nothing has been finalised and the couple might spend just 24 hours in the entertainment capital before heading north to stunning Yosemite National Park and San Francisco.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘The Royal visit is the talk of Hollywood. The deal is that several stars and organisations have been asked to put forward proposals for charity events and galas.

‘William and Kate will go through all the options and it will be down to them to pick what they want to do.’

Having returned this weekend from their honeymoon on the Seychelles’ North Island, the Duke and Duchess will now press on with planning their first official overseas visit as a married couple.

The Prince, who is president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, has asked the organisation to propose an event. A Bafta insider said: ‘We are suggesting several ideas, including a tea party, a cricket match and also a more formal gala evening to promote the British film industry.’

Such is the excitement among LA-based celebrities that Victoria Beckham – whose husband David is a friend of Prince William – is even reported to have scheduled her caesarean section to deliver her fourth child for July 4, in time for the Royal couple’s arrival.

Sir Elton John and David Furnish are offering to host a party to introduce the Duke and Duchess to Hollywood, with an event at the luxurious Beverly Wilshire hotel.

And producer Steve Tisch, whose films include Forrest Gump, has offered to host a formal gathering at his £25million Malibu mansion.

A source said: ‘There are several proposals on the table. Before they went on honeymoon, the couple said they would be open to spending time at Yosemite National Park. They are keen to see the famous redwood trees. There is also talk about them going to San Francisco.’

Whatever their eventual itinerary, the Royal couple are expected to spend at least one night at a new £7,500-a-night presidential bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel – known as the ‘Pink Palace’ because of its trademark pink stucco exterior.

The 5,500 sq ft bungalow ‘Number 23’ is still under construction alongside a smaller 5,000 sq ft bungalow ‘Number 24’, which will house the couple’s security staff.

A hotel source said last night: ‘Everyone has been sworn to secrecy but we are all thrilled that the Royal couple have chosen to stay with us.’

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom bungalow has walnut wood floors and a dining room with seating for ten.

There is a free¬standing bath-tub for two, vast walk-in closet and a 65in Bang & Olufsen television. Outside, the bungalow boasts an outdoor shower and private pool with underwater speakers, a waterfall and Jacuzzi.

It was confirmed yesterday that William and Kate were back in the UK after their ten-day honeymoon. St James’s Palace said the couple had ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ their time together in the Seychelles.
