Mother knows best: Sian Williams told James McCullagh to sit up straight on breakfast TV


Mild mannered TV host Sian Williams sounded more like Lord Alan Sugar today.

The BBC Breakfast host gave a finalist from the Young Apprentice a short lesson in manners in front of over a million viewers.

James McCullagh was being interviewed ahead of tonight's final and displayed a very casual attitude.


The 16-year-old was sitting down on the red sofa alongside fellow finalist Zara Brownless.

Sian, who is a mother-of-four, took it upon herself to teach him the correct etiquette.

She told him: 'You’re so laid back you’re horizontal.'

She continued: 'If you were my son I’d tell you to sit up properly.'

James took the hint and quickly adjusted his positioning to an upright position and apologised.

McCullagh, who describes himself as an ideas man, told Digital Spy that his fellow competitor lacked his vision.

He said: 'Zara is a very worthy finalist and she's an incredible speaker. And she's incredible at pitching as well. However, she does have weaknesses as well.

'Throughout the process she never put forward any ideas. She might have developed a product, but she never created one. For me, business is all about idea. The biggest difference between Zara and myself is ideas. And I think that's what separates a great entrepreneur from a great employee.'

The two youngsters are competing for a £25,000 cash prize.

Lord Sugar tweeted about the final and said: '5 hours to go FINAL of YOUNG APPRENTICE. BBC-1 9pm See who wins £25,000 prize hard decision.Great final task - MAKING AND PLAYING GAMES. (sic).'
